Description
The Generation Support Specialist is a key member of a 24/7 mission critical operations team and is responsible for
support of power plant control systems for a ~ 7,000MW renewable generation portfolio. The ideal candidate will
have extensive working and institutional knowledge and understanding of complex control systems applications as
they relate to the operation of diversely located and centrally operated generation assets.

Responsibilities include:

• Work in a real time 24x7 control room environment, acting as the first level of support to technical problems
related to SCADA, energy management, distributed control systems and telecommunications.
• Provide technical and engineering support to ensure the reliable operation of Avangrid's Supervisory Control
and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems.
• Determine which escalation path is required for problems with remote systems.
• Configure, and perform maintenance on complex applications such as GE Alstom e-terra, OSI PI, PC Vue,
VisuPro, Matrikon, Citect, SC Commander, and other power generation related SCADA applications
• Implement, configure, and maintain systems supporting a highly reliable generation dispatch,
communications, and control center.
• Monitor, support and troubleshoot complex systems such as Automatic Generation Control Systems (AGC)
and Automatic Voltage Regulation Systems (AVR).
• Comply with NERC / CIP standards.
• Monitor, support and troubleshoot systems relating to NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, WECC, CAISO, PJM, BPA, or
other system authorities.
• Configure, test, and monitor protocols such as Modbus, DNP, OPC, ICCP, TCP/IP and XML

Requirements
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
• As is relates to the job description, 5 years' experience in or around power plant and or substation SCADA
systems (the company may consider candidates with less experience at a lower level)
• 3+ years' experience managing and supporting communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP, OPC,
ICCP, TCP/IP and XML
• Ability to qualify to NERC standards including successful 7 year background investigation and security review
• Working knowledge of telecommunications networks.
• Proven ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with all levels of management, operations, and
technical personnel in and easy to understand yet precise format
• High energy and ability to work with little direct supervision.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
• Detailed understanding of NERC / CIP standards
• 2+ years' experience with complex systems such as GE Alstom e-terra (Source, Habitat, Comm, Control,
Platform), Campbell Loggernet, and Schweitzer Engineering Labs (SEL) relays and RTU's.
• 1+ years' experience systems relating to NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, WECC, CAISO, PJM, BPA, or other system
authorities.
• Experience with complex data center operations and management.
• Experience configuring site-to-site VPN setup and remote desktop applications.
• Background in process control safety.
• Experience in providing support remotely.
Other
• Self motivating and desire to stay abreast of latest systems technologies relating to optimizing generation
system performance
• Ability to respond on an on-call basis and travel to remote locations as required
• Ability to read and use Microsoft Excel formulas, functions and VBA
