Avangrid Renewables, LLC is seeking a Senior Engineer/Meteorologist. The person in the position will work in a
high-energy, dynamic environment where accurate energy production estimates are critical to the success of the
business and where excellent communication and organizational skills, continuous improvement contributions, and
strategic initiative are recognized and rewarded. This position, ideally located in Portland, Oregon, reports to the
Director of Energy Resources & Meteorology. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

• Design meteorological monitoring campaigns utilizing towers, sodars, lidars, and monitoring stations to
secure high quality data necessary to conduct accurate wind resource and energy production assessments.

• Work closely and proactively with business development teams to identify and assess potential new
“greenfield" sites and potential acquisitions based on available meteorological observations, numerical model
simulations, and topographic characteristics of an area.

• Conduct field visits and evaluate suitability of prospective turbine sites, and identify representative locations
for meteorological towers, sodars, and lidars for accurate wind assessment and modeling.

• Ensure meteorology monitoring station deployments meet high-quality standards and through coordination
with internal development and permitting teams, comply with all internal, landowners, town, county, State, and/or
Federal requirements.

• Perform comprehensive quality control screening of meteorological data to ensure information is sound and
defendable for wind resource and project energy assessment.

• Develop new methodologies and software tools to improve quantification of wind resource assessment while
adhering to company guidelines and industry best-practices.

• Conduct detailed scientific analyses of measured data to quantify temporal, horizontal and vertical
characteristics of the wind resource, and, when necessary, build and implement tools and processes to achieve
analysis goals.

• Conduct long-term wind resource predictions based on appropriate observed and modeled reference data


• Design well-informed wind farm turbine layouts optimized for energy capture, compliant with design
standards as well as constructability, environmental considerations of sound and site constraints.

• Proficiency in setting up, running, and interpreting predictions of wind speed, wake loss and energy
production from commercially available software packages (OpenWind, MeteoDyn, etc).

• Derive long-term expected energy production of a proposed wind farm based on gross-to-net loss factors,
assumptions supported by measured data or industry best-practices, and robust uncertainty analyses.

• Conduct advanced time-series production analyses, including validate and derive supporting statistical
metrics (such as 12 x 24s and 8760s), as well as time-series loss factor and storage modeling based on long-term
energy production time-series.

• Estimate the future production of a wind farm by analyzing the production of an existing, operational wind

• Prepare comprehensive energy assessment reports of a proposed wind farm that adhere to company
guidelines and industry best-practices.

• Attend and participate in relevant industry conferences and committees to support Avangrid Renewables
through maintaining a comprehensive understanding of industry best-practice methodologies.

• Prepare internal site suitability analyses and critically review and provide comments on site suitability reports
supplied by turbine manufactures.

• Continued involvement with numerous projects as senior engineer/meteorologist from inception through
construction and operation of a wind farm with return site visits, periodic updating of wind resource and energy
production estimates, and refinement of turbine layout.

• Project manage relevant parties and scopes of work as part of formal IEC power curve tests.

• Excellent organization skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively in a timely manner with a
multi-discipline team of personnel.

• Ability to meet deadlines, rapidly adapt to changing priorities, and solve problems effectively and

• Solar resource assessment and PV modeling experience preferred, but not required.

• Approximately 15% domestic and international travel expected.


• Bachelor's degree or higher (Master’s degree preferred) in Meteorology, Engineering, Statistics, Physics,
Aeronautics, Atmospheric Sciences, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

• A minimum of 5 years of industry-relevant experience.

• Ability to create user-friendly, GUI-based data analysis tools and/or proficiency with any of the following
programing languages: Matlab, R, Python, SQL, Visual Basic (Microsoft Excel).
