Avangrid Renewables is seeking an experienced nodal market analyst to join the Fundamentals group at Avangrid
Renewables headquarters in Portland, OR. The successful candidate will work on highly technical, quantitative, and
analytical initiatives and projects including, but not limited to, powerflow analysis, market simulation, locational
marginal price (LMP) analysis, renewable integration studies, and evaluation of the impact of market rule changes
on these forecasts and analyses in the WECC market region. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding
of nodal market operations in one or both of these regions, powerflow analysis experience, and experience with or
desire to learn power market simulation models such as Aurora.xmp, PLEXOS, or similar.
• Develop and enhance nodal modeling capabilities of the WECC production cost models.
• Research, map and model power and transmission system components and data required to analyze nodal
price formation using production cost models.
• Perform market-wide (Independent System Operator markets) simulations using Aurora.xmp power market
simulation software in the WECC regions to support locational marginal power price (LMP) forecasting and assess
the incremental impacts of new generation and/or transmission additions on locational factors (e.g., marginal
congestion and line loss costs).
• Improve the company's modeling capabilities in simulations.
• Conduct power flow studies and network analysis using PowerWorld Simulator (or equivalent).
• Perform different types of studies such as renewable asset integration studies and production cost analysis
for different generation technologies.
• Provide analytical support to various projects at the direction of senior managers.
• Coordinate power market assumptions with Fundamentals staff producing long-term price forecasts where
• Conduct historic nodal pricing analysis.
• Provide results summaries and explanations to non-technical and technical audiences.
• Provide insights for renewable resource optimization and support strategic development of renewable assets
in the Western US.

• Work in a project-based setting to effectively coordinate scenario analysis with project development team,
market structure, and investment office staff and maintain clear documentation and version control of analyses

• Preference given to candidates with bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (power system emphasis
desired), Mathematics or related quantitative field as well as a solid educational and/or professional background in
power systems analysis or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
• 5 years of experience in transmission and market simulation modeling or equivalent experience (the
company may consider candidates with less experience at a lower level)
• Deep understanding of transmission system and power flow fundamentals, LMP formation, and relevant
• Demonstrated experience with ISO market operations with respect to LMP modeling and working with
optimization models, including detailed knowledge of optimization and quantitative methods and data underlying
market simulations, powerflow, contingency and congestion analysis, unit commitment and economic dispatch
• Proficiency in PowerWorld Simulator or other loadflow analysis tools
• Proficiency in use of Excel for analysis and other Microsoft office tools
• Demonstrated understanding of the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), market design,
operations, and price formation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both
business and technical personnel at all organizational levels. Must work collaboratively with Fundamentals
colleagues in the US and Spain, and with internal stakeholders
• Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building,
and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovations and market rule changes that impact job
• Ability to acquire FERC Critical Energy Infrastructure Information (CEII) clearance and safeguard critical
information appropriately
• Ability to work independently or with a team and communicate with people from a wide variety of

Preferred Skills
• Experience with power market price forecasting and simulations using constrained economic dispatch models
such as Aurora.xmp or similiar
• Extensive knowledge of power market simulation/optimization models and/or transmission systems analysis tools
and data sources
