Job Description

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Perform detailed, complex engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology & principles & other viable approaches.

Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.

Duties:

Solves unique standards engineering problems. Utilizes a broad prospective to identify innovative solutions. E.g. forensic analysis, material evaluations, material applications and construction standards.

Prepare, maintain, & understand drawings (e.g. schematics, one-line diagrams).

Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of complex level of difficulty using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.

Serve as SME for transmission or distribution equipment (e.g. cable, transformers, switches, poles and concrete products). Anticipates internal/external business issues and recommend process improvements.

Participate in Industry associations.

Acts as a facilitator, mentor & review engineering work of others.

Anticipates & make recommendations with respect to customer & stakeholder needs. Explains difficult concepts & influences others. May make presentations to regulatory/public entities.

Lead engineering teams to complete assigned tasks and projects.

Assist in guiding and mentoring engineers in standards engineering methodology.

Manages and provides direction for resources outside of the department.

Leads others to analyze and resolve complex problems in non-standard situations & develop creative solutions. Independently apply design standards, industry codes, design criteria, guidelines & AVANGRID polices/procedures.

Possesses a depth and breadth of knowledge and interprets processes and standards related to electrical equipment.

Recommends solutions and best practices where appropriate.

Represents Standards on projects, task forces and studies.

Develop business cases & manage projects/processes/initiatives or teams in accordance with applicable AVANGRID guidelines.

Coordinate phases of engineering for assigned portions of a project/program.

Forecast, plan, schedule, monitor, control budget/estimates, construction plans and material orders. Assist in the management of resource allocation including developing forecasts and plans to insure adequate resources are available.

Skills and Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college/university, 10 years’ experience performing engineering duties. Specialized advanced training is also required or graduate level engineering degree.

Possess a depth and breadth of experience in electric transmission or distribution standards engineering and knowledge of internal/external business and regulatory issues.  Recognized as an expert in own area within the organization and industry. Maintains knowledge of leading edge techniques or technology through participation in professional associations.  Able to communicate orally or in writing to regulatory and/or public entities. Able to lead a Team or mentor others. A Professional Engineering license from the State of Connecticut, New York or Maine is preferred.
