Job Summary:

Scope of Work – Main duties, settings, geography, reporting relationships, and other relationships:The engineer will have a central role in developing distribution construction and design standards for AVANGRID’selectrical overhead and underground lines. Write engineering specifications for electrical equipment. Creatematerial specifications for various items; such as concrete products, poles, transformers, cable, etc. Workindependently with only administrative and general direction from supervision. Develop a strong technicalknowledge base to serve as technical advisor (SME) for electric equipment such as cables, conductors, structures,switchgear, etc. Follow updates in research and developments taking place in the power industry, through trainingand industry associations. The engineer will lead teams/projects that solve complex distribution equipment/designproblems taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Able to work independently with guidance ononly the most complex tasks. Participates and represents AVANGRID on Industry associations. Mentor otheremployees.

Major Roles and Responsibilities (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):
•Perform detailed, complex engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology &principles & other viable approaches.
•Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.


•Solves unique standards engineering problems. Utilizes a broad prospective to identify innovative solutions. E.g.forensic analysis, material evaluations, material applications and construction standards.
•Prepare, maintain, & understand drawings (e.g. schematics, one-line diagrams).
•Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of complex level ofdifficulty using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.
•Serve as SME for distribution equipment (e.g. cable, transformers, switches, poles and concrete products).Anticipates internal/external business issues and recommend process improvements.
•Participate in Industry associations.
•Acts as a facilitator, mentor & review engineering work of others.
•Anticipates & make recommendations with respect to customer & stakeholder needs. Explains difficult concepts &influences others. May make presentations to regulatory/public entities.
•Lead engineering teams to complete assigned tasks and projects.
•Assist in guiding and mentoring engineers in standards engineering methodology.
•Manages and provides direction for resources outside of the department.
•Leads others to analyze and resolve complex problems in non-standard situations & develop creative solutions.Independently apply design standards, industry codes, design criteria, guidelines & AVANGRID polices/procedures.
•Possesses a depth and breadth of knowledge and interprets processes and standards related to electricalequipment.
•Recommends solutions and best practices where appropriate.
•Represents Standards on projects, task forces and studies.
•Develop business cases & manage projects/processes/initiatives or teams in accordance with applicableAVANGRID guidelines.
•Coordinate phases of engineering for assigned portions of a project/program.
•Forecast, plan, schedule, monitor, control budget/estimates, construction plans and material orders. Assist in themanagement of resource allocation including developing forecasts and plans to insure adequate resources areavailable.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience Required:

Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college/university, 10 years’

experience performing engineering duties. Specialized advanced training is also required or graduate levelengineering degree.

Possess a depth and breadth of experience in electric distribution standards engineering and knowledge ofinternal/external business and regulatory issues. Recognized as an expert in own area within the organization andindustry. Maintains knowledge of leading edge techniques or technology through participation in professionalassociations. Able to communicate orally or in writing to regulatory and/or public entities. Able to lead a Team ormentor others. A Professional Engineering license from the State of Connecticut, New York or Maine is preferred.
