Job Title: Principal Engineer – Gas Engineering System Planning &
Technical Services

Location: Orange or East Hartford, CT

As a primary subject matter expert for system planning and
technical services within the Connecticut Gas Engineering Organization,
provide the highest level of consultation on diverse and highly complex
problems, emerging technological, regulatory and compliance documents.
As necessary, work across Operating Companies, global affiliates, and
with different departments within and outside the organization.
Responsible for all aspects of gas engineering in Connecticut (CNG and
SCG), including computer model development and use of models for system
planning of expansions, replacements and infrastructure improvements,
evaluation and scoping gate and regulator station project needs, tap
agreements with suppliers and local production companies, timely review
and updating of company quality assurance documents including
Construction Standards, O&M Plans, Material Specification of Engineering
and Operating Procedures.

Consultation and guidance for department engineers for projects
involving gas distribution to ensure system reliability and safety.

Guide engineering studies to evaluate gas asset condition, system or
component integrity and effectiveness of programs.
Lead and guide training and development of engineers within the CT Gas
Engineering Organization. Evaluate and implement new and advanced
technology platforms to increase reliability, efficiency and reduce
operational risk.

Ensure all system standards and designs meet applicable company, local,
state, and national codes and standards (including but not limited to:
ASTM, ANSI, API, 49 CFR Part 191 & Part 192 and NYS Title 16 Chapter
III, PHMSA, NACE, ISO 9001 and ME PUC requirements)
Liaison across Operating Companies, across global affiliates, with
different departments, and with outside groups, suppliers, companies and


Job Requirements:

Education & Experience Required:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical
Engineering, or in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering
Technology; Masters Degree preferred

• Minimum 15 - 20 years of technical experience in gas engineering
and/or related field

• Professional engineering license desirable

• Expert knowledge and experience in gas engineering and design,
national and state code requirements and standards, and compliance
requirements associated with API, ASTM , ASME, ANSI, 49 CFR Part 191 &
Part 192, NYS Title 16 Chapter III and ISO 9001.


• Independent decision making capability

• Self-directed

• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills to decipher the most
perplexing technical and analytical problems.

• Strong communication skills and interpersonal to articulate
highly technical concepts

• Effective leadership skills to drive change and adoption of new
technologies across Operating Companies and international affiliates.

• Expertise in performing complex system pressure analysis,

distribution and transmission pipeline system analysis and planning for
improvements, expansions, and replacements, city gate and regulator
station design, supplier tap agreements and connections.

• Strong awareness and application of commercial implications,
including cost estimating, budgeting, least cost planning, etc.

• Safety leadership by example in application of and adherence to
all safety regulations in process and procedures development

• Expertise in all aspects of gas engineering theory, application,
standards, design, test, commissioning, and analysis.
