Responsibilities

Purpose:

Avangrid Networks is comprised of eight electric and natural gas utilities, serving approximately 3.2 million customers in New York and New England.   Our vision is to be a leader in the energy sector, and this role is contributes by working together to deliver the labor and employee relations program for their assigned operating companies (Affiliates).

Working within the HR Business Partner and Labor relations team across AVANGRID Networks, this role will support the delivery of the current collective bargaining arrangements, alongside strategies that continue to develop and improve our labor relations in a complex, multi-union environment.

Key Responsibilities:

•         Supervise labor and employee relations within the Affiliate(s) assigned and manage its budget.

•         Manage local labor relations and employee relations matters, chairing regular meetings with union leaders and/or employees.

•         Work in conjunction with the relevant HR centers of excellence to administer employee relations policy matters and labor relations contract matters, including addressing escalated grievances per the contract(s), handling various other labor relations or employee relations issues, and ensuring proper documentation and communication for bargaining history and related purposes.

•         Participate in development of employee relations and labor relations strategies within the Affiliate(s) assigned and work with colleagues across the group to determine broader AVANGRID labor relations strategy.

•         Work with the AVANGRID Director, HR Business Partner and VP, HR Networks, to managing the outcomes to the degree possible of litigation, arbitration, and other employment or contract disputes.

•         Oversee the administration and interpretation of union contract and policy matters in conjunction with the relevant centers of excellence (OneHR Hub, Payroll, Organizational Management).

•         Conduct formal training on all related subjects.

•         Function as an internal consultant on labor and employee relations and various other human resources matters.

•         Extract and understand employment, wage, financial, and operational data from computer systems and other sources, perform financial calculations and other data analysis.

Skills and Requirements

Education:

•         BS/BA Degree (preferably a degree in human resources (HR), behavioral science, or business administration, with at least some course work in labor relations.) 

•         Additional formal training or certificate programs in contract negotiations and contract administration; MBA and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) preferred.

Experience:

•         Five plus years of strong labor/employee relations background, with experience delivering labor and employee relations activities in a complex, or multi-union environment.

•         Experience in successfully coaching both managers and HR teams through the delivery of collective bargaining agreements

Skills/Qualifications:

•         Working knowledge and experience of employment and labor laws including the National Labor Relations Act, wage and hour, anti-discrimination / harassment, and other laws governing the workplace. 

•         Proficient in oral and written communication, interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, analytical, ability to extract and manage computer data and mutual gains and negotiation skills.

•         Able to address matters before they reach the formal process, or if not manage through the appropriate grievance process

•         Experience in negotiating and administer collective bargaining agreements and personnel policy.

•         Skilled at finding creative solutions to issues and working with all levels of management and employees

•         Able to conduct and consult on formal investigations related to internal and external complaints.
