Business and Department

The Engineer Electric Maintenance Engineer position reports to the Manager of the Electric Maintenance Engineer
Department. He provides technical support and direction on efforts to plan, design, construct and operate the
transmission and distribution system to provide desired reliability levels. Provides technical expertise, direction and
leadership for the Associate Engineers, Maintenance Technicians and Field Operations personnel. Plans, develops,
implements and monitors maintenance programs for the Transmission, Distribution and Substation systems.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):
•Performs analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems, equipment and
components. Performs specialized engineering studies.
•Develops regulatory filings such as transmission line certificate applications and line rebuild schedules. Support,
implement and develop maintenance researched, capital equipment replacement programs with financial models
•Evaluate available transmission capacity and conduct system impact studies based on requests for transmission
services under FERC open access rules. Activities include maintenance program development, maintenance
specifications, equipment assessment, technical support, maintenance practice development and equipment
specifications for transmission, distribution and substation equipment.
•Performs engineering economic studies and compares alternative plans for system growth, improvements or
enhancements. Actively participates in the activities of professional societies and industry related associations to
stay abreast of changes in the industry and advances in technology.
•May identify Identifies capital improvement and O&M ideas and coordinate the preparations of associated capital
and O&M budgets.


Education & Experience Required:
•A Bachelors Degree in Engineering (BS or BT) is required.
•A minimum of 3 years of experience in power system planning, design, operations, maintenance engineering or
project management.
•Must be registered as a Professional Engineer
•EIT is also preferred.

Skills & Abilities:
•Highly developed computer skills for database maintenance.
•Ability to simultaneously handle complex and diverse situations.
•Quick decision making during emergencies.
