Key Responsibilities:

The Distribution Planning Engineer will solve moderately complex problems and utilize best practices andknowledge of internal/external business issues to improve processes, studies or projects. Work is to be completedwith minimal guidance. Applies established distribution planning criteria and uses sound utility engineering practicesto identify deficiencies in the distribution system. Utilizes complex computer aided analysis tools to develop costefficient wire and Non-Wire Alternative (NWA) solutions to known distribution system issues. Assists DistributionEngineers and Field Planners in evaluating system reliability and new service requirements. Follow updates inresearch and developments taking place in the power industry, through training and industry associations andcommittees. Assignments may include travel to different Avangrid Networks operating companies.

Perform detailed, moderately complex engineering analyses following not only standard methodology, criteria andprinciples but other viable approaches. Develop alternate methods or planning concepts to resolve moderatelycomplex problems including development of cost effective NWAs to electric distribution capital budgeted projects.

Solves moderately complex Distribution Planning & Reliability issues. Takes a new prospective on establishedmethods e.g. large scale system expansion, large scale customer load additions, voltage drops, and area planningstudies. Studies to include but not limited to, equipment thermal loading, distribution automation, N-1 contingencyanalysis, large scale customer load additions and resiliency.

Review applications of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and perform system impact studies. Impact studyanalyses may include thermal, system imbalance impacts, voltage change analysis, voltage fluctuation analysis,

potential for ferroresonance, islanding, and harmonics. Review and provide feedback to impact studies from peerengineers. Perform substation and circuit level load and DER forecasts. Perform substation and circuit level DERhosting capacity analysis.

Develop, prepare, maintain, and understand planning methodologies, study models and documentation (i.e. projectscope and oneline diagrams) for moderately complex assignments.

Represent Distribution Planning on assigned Avangrid demonstration projects and initiatives and industry teams.Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and provide guidance to other team members on DistributionPlanning, Reliability and NWA issues and analysis.

Review the planning and reliabilty engineering work of peer engineers & consultants. Interprets & makerecommendations with respect to customer & stakeholder needs. Explains difficult issues & works to establishconsensus.

Promotes cross functional teamwork on assigned tasks and projects. Assist in guiding and mentoring engineers inplanning and reliability analysis development. Provides direction for resources outside of the department.

Works independently in performing analysis to address standard and non-standard situations. Applies design andplanning standards, industry codes, criteria, guidelines and Avangrid policies/procedures.

Interprets processes and standards related to Distribution Planning and Reliability. Recommends solutions and bestpractices for standard and non-standard situations. Represents Distribution Planning on projects, task forces andstudies.

With minimal to moderate guidance, develop study reports and manage small projects/studies/initiatives or teams inaccordance with applicable Avangrid guidelines. Coordinate phases of planning engineering for assigned portionsof a project/program.

Proficient at utilizing computer aided analysis tools to identify system deficiencies and plan for systemreinforcements.

Assists during storm restoration.

Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET (or equivalent) accredited college/universityplus 3 to 5 years experience performing engineering duties with completion of Basic Engineering TrainingCurriculum (e.g. ECNE-PUI) or equivalent. A Professional Engineer License is not required, but it is preferred.Possess a depth and breadth of experience in Distribution Planning or another related Engineering area, along withrelated business practices and procedures. Able to explain difficult issues and work to establish consensus. Able towork in a cross-functional team and guide or mentor other team members.
