Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Communications, the Director – Communications is a demanding andhigh-profile position responsible for driving strategic communications supporting AVANGRID’s business objectiveswith external stakeholders and employees. Position will also work closely with parent company representatives(Iberdrola S.A.) headquartered in Madrid, Spain. Main areas of responsibilities include media relations, externalcommunications and some varying communications.

Oversees direct reports, external resources, and partners with key stakeholders to achieve timely execution of allprograms/efforts. Develops measurement protocols to ensure effective use of resources and performance data todetermine effectiveness of programs and implementations. Monitors industry and discipline trends, tools, andtechnologies and implements innovative traditional, event and social/on-line marketing initiatives.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):

1. In collaboration with key stakeholders and in alignment with a global strategy responsible for strategicallydeveloping communications to achieve the AVANGRID objectives.2. Responsible for building image and company reputation working in collaboration with all necessary departmentsand business functions.3. Responsibilities also include a focus on other communications related to company positioning, strategicinitiatives, executive level support, corporate earnings and other corporate matters.4. Oversees external communications including developing press releases, interacting with media, preparingexecutives for media interviews and a variety of other projects, including internal and external events, etc.

5. Responsible for crisis communications and adept at managing complex and sensitive business issues.6. The Director will work with employees at all levels throughout the organization and is relied upon to providedecisive recommendations and strategic counsel as needed.7. The Director will be responsible for relationships with key business, financial and other influential media thatcover the company, the energy industry and other areas of interest to AVANGRID; handle proactive and reactivemedia relations efforts in a quick and efficient manner to ensure positive media coverage for AVANGRID and itssubsidiaries. Act as company spokesperson as needed on behalf of relevant communications programs and issues.8. The Director will coordinate communications initiatives with Iberdrola S.A and AVANGRID Renewables in theU.S. to ensure consistency in messaging and image.9. The Director will, at times, serve as a representative in several capacities, including making statements to themedia, either giving (or media training other senior executives for) interviews and serving as gatekeeper for any andall company information that is to be disclosed to the public.10. The position requires the ability to quickly facilitate all media requests, including but not limited to, specificquestions on performance, executives, strategy, products, policies and historical perspectives, among others.11. Effectively manages communications staff for high performance; Manages budget.


Education & Experience Required:

• Bachelors’ Degree required with Master’s Degree preferred with a minimum of 10 years relevant experiencepreferred.• Thorough understanding of communications strategy and be able to handle external communications and mediarelations.• Superior writing and editing skills for all forms of communication needs and detailed information for seniorexecutives.• Strong relationship builder with solid budgeting and managerial experience.• Knowledge of the electric/natural gas industry or regulated industry is considered a plus.


• Superior verbal and written communication skills, writing, editing and project management skills.• Strong strategic and analytical capability.• Keen ability to manage change and crisis communications issues.• Strong ability to work with and influence senior leaders and other key stakeholders throughout the company oncommunications opportunities and issues.• Ability to multi-task and quickly prioritize projects and work well under pressure and tight deadlines.• Self-starter, independent worker, strong team and cross-functional collaborator.• Attention to detail and an ability to plan and execute events and meetings on strict timelines and budgets.• Create, maintain and foster relationships with key media, both traditional and digital, business and trade.• Requires a high level of strategic thinking, creativity, comfort with digital/social media strategies.• Must be able to have superior attention to detail.• Demonstrated ability to function as spokesperson as needed, both taped and live media interviews in positive and

negative situations.• Ability to make reasonably quick, well-informed strategic decisions.• Excellent leadership and collaboration skills in effectively managing staff that may reside in different geographicalareas.

• Must have the flexibility to travel to necessary company locations in the northeast portion of the U.S.
