Description
Scope of Work - Main duties, settings, geography, reporting relationships, and other relationships:

Corrosion Technician II (CT2) is expected to be an SME (Subject Matter Expert) of Cathodic Protection and
possesses the ability to work and think independently to resolve most any issue that may compromise the Cathodic
Protection of steel gas pipeline within the UIL area of responsibility.

Major Roles and Responsibilities (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):
•Responsible to not only work safely, but to promote a safe work ethic and behavior.
•Responsible to perform and interpret required readings (i.e. annual test points, isolated services, casings, bonds,
foreign crossings) in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures.
•Responsible for timely cathodic protection troubleshooting (i.e. low systems, shorted conditions)
•Responsible for timely creation of remediation work orders (i.e. install anodes, clear short, install insulator, repair /
replace test station). Follows through with necessary departments to ensure timely completion.
•Works closely with peers from other utilities to maintain CP at franchise gate stations.
•Responsible for performance of QA checks on reads performed by others
•Responsible for troubleshooting and maintenance of rectifiers
•Responsible for maintenance of tools and equipment.
•Responsible for atmospheric inspections for bridge crossings, above ground piping that is dept. responsibility, or
other exposed piping as needed in accordance with procedures.
•Understands use of unique equipment and tools used purposely for Cathodic Protection measures.
•Provides corrosion control-related support to other Departments as needed for maintenance / repair.
•Participates as needed in regulatory audits to ensure success.
•Transmission and / or High Pressure Distribution gas mains:
-Performs annual CIS of scheduled piping.
-Works with Engineering on annual testing of scheduled HCA piping.

-Works with R.O.W. crews with follow up investigations or maintenance.
-Works closely with peers from other utilities to maintain CP at franchise gate stations.
•Responds to arcing or stray voltage conditions on gas lines.
•Ability to perform Corrosion Dept. supervisory duties as needed.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
A Corrosion Technician II may possess Qualification Requirements through a 3 year
progression program from the entry level Corrosion Technician I (CTI) position.

Education:
•High school diploma
•Valid driver's license
•Completion of at least 2 of 3 offered courses from the Appalachian Underground Corrosion Short Course (AUCSC)
program or equivalent
•NACE CP1 (Cathodic Protection Tester)
•Certificate(s) of Customer service skill courses or equivalent.

Related Work Experience:
•Past experience with use of hand tools
•Pipeline or plumbing experience
•Troubleshooting experience
•3 years field work of pipeline cathodic protection / corrosion control
•Successful completion of all current Operational Qualifications.

Skills and Abilities:
•Troubleshooting skills- Advanced proficiency
•Ability to read Infrastructure mapping and/or electric schematics- Advanced proficiency
•Mathematics aptitude - Intermediate proficiency
•MS Office - Intermediate Proficiency

•Ability to interpret engineer designs.
•Understands the concepts of rectifiers and ground bed replacement.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
•Frequent local travel with occasional out of town requirements.
•Must possess a valid driver's license
•Physical Demands:
•This position frequently requires prolonged standing or walking.

•This position frequently requires the ability to reach above shoulder level.
•This position frequently requires the ability to bend, kneel,
crouch, or crawl.
•This position requires the ability to work in awkward positions.
•This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
•Use of hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, tunnel/pry bars

•Work Environment:
•The ability to work in both office and field environments.
•May work near or with moving mechanical parts.
•Will be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions.
