This position reports to the Avangrid Renewables communications director and will have the responsibility to helpbuild and manage media relations and public-facing opportunities on behalf of the Communications Department ofAvangrid Renewables. The goals of this position include advancing Avangrid Renewables’ external profile,reputation, and facilitating clear, timely, and useful communication. The position works to align communicationsstrategies and messaging with affiliated businesses and the parent company. The position has the opportunity towork with a growing, well-regarded and well-established renewable energy company that is embracing innovativetechnologies and has a compelling narrative as it offers competitive clean energy solutions to the market.

This position will work with senior management and executives at a renewable energy company that is a subsidiaryof a publicly traded company on a range of reputational risk and corporate social responsibility assessment andreporting requirements, devise community engagement strategies, coordinate Internet and intranet portal form andcontent, and manage the work of third-party service providers on many of these activities. The position is based inPortland, Oregon.

Responsibilities Include:
• Execute an annual communications plan, in alignment with the parent companies and consistent with theAvangrid Renewables business strategy.
• Serve as an Avangrid Renewables authorized media contact, managing the media presence and corporateresponses in markets where Avangrid Renewables has a physical presence or other interest. This includesmanaging media inquiries directed to other parts of the company including field sites, development and corporatesales teams.
• Manages coordination of incoming press calls, determining response or directing the inquiry to theappropriate communications team member, ensuring timely response.
• Manages processes around press release approvals for a publicly-traded company.


• Works with VP of Communications, Communications Director and other executives to develop a mediarelations outreach strategy and program, building relationships with the media so that they understand whoAvangrid is and our position and strategy. This may include coordinating, prepping and staffing interviews forsenior executives as well as pitching stories to the press to gain media coverage.
• Work closely with communications representatives from large corporations, federal, state, and localgovernment agencies, and other energy companies to jointly promote new announcements, projects, technologiesand sales agreements.
• Manage a series of activities that address parent-company initiatives as well as the communicationsrequirements of Avangrid Renewables, such as marketing efforts, event management, and activities that promotecorporate brand.
• Write and curate content for various external, internal, and electronic communication vehicles that thecompany employs to reach various stakeholders, examples may include the company blog, sustainability report,social media channels, and newsletters mailed to renewables leaseholders around the country. Work creativelyacross all business units to seek out compelling stories about the business and its employees.
• Collaborate with industry and other allies to develop strategies, prepare plans, and execute public affairsactions related to technology, policy and regulatory issues.
• Coordinate company communications, corporate social responsibility and community relations in support ofbusiness initiatives, operations, and capital investment projects.
• Coordinates and manages communication initiatives with Iberdrola S.A to ensure consistency in messagingand image.
• Supports development of crisis communications plans and materials and plays role in crisis communicationsresponse as appropriate.
• Work creatively across all business units to seek out compelling stories about the business and itsemployees and use numerous corporate communications vehicles to help tell those stories.
• Some travel expected, approximately 15% of time

Requirements


• A minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in a communication related field such as journalism, marketing,advertising or public affairs with responsibility for developing and executing strategic external communicationsinitiatives.
• Energy industry experience and/or renewables experience a plus.
• Demonstrated success in building brand, image and company reputation through media relations, socialmedia and other communications related to company positioning, strategic initiatives, executive profiles, andearnings and other corporate matters.
• Experience in providing decisive recommendations and strategic counsel to Executive Staff Members, VicePresidents, Business Directors, and others.
• Proficiency with various forms of electronic media and social media are also essential.
• Experience in creating and editing corporate communication, including press releases, and Q&A on allcorporate matters.


• Experience in media relations, including providing statements and interviews to the media and preparingsenior executives for media interviews and a variety of other communication activities including external events.
• Experience in developing plans for and managing crisis communications and adept at managing complexand sensitive business issues.
• Occasional travel to project sites, industry conferences, and other business-related locations.
